Foreword to the CWM 2020 Election
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As previously conveyed by Moderator, Rev Darchonhaia Darnei, and General Secretary, Rev Dr Collin Cowan, CWM has sought legal advice to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic situation, which rendered our physical Assembly impossible. After due diligence on this matter, CWM decided to conduct the election and Annual Members Meeting electronically to ensure that the regulatory requirements of the Charities are met. According to Article 2.1.4 of the CWM Corporate Governance policy, it states “The Assembly shall elect and appoint the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.” This is the process that we are about to begin. Article 38 of the CWM Constitution states “The Directors may meet together either in persons or by telephone, radio conference televisions or other similar communication equipment or any other form of audio or audio-visual instantaneous communications by which all Directors and/or persons participating in the meeting are able to hear and be heard by all other participants for the dispatch of business and adjourn and otherwise regulate their meetings as they think fit.”
The lawyer’s interpretation of the Constitution is that any governance-related business is covered under this clause. As such, the elections proceedings, as a function of governance, fits within this mechanism, in the circumstances of Covid-19, or any such crisis.
I further advise that CWM will conduct its Annual Members’ Meeting electronically on 18 June 2020, at which time the outcome of the elections will be presented, and the respective Boards declared and affirmed.
Nominees for Moderator and Treasurer
The Nominations Committee is pleased to announce the nominees for Moderator and Treasurer as nominated by member churches. All of the candidates have accepted their nomination by written consent to the General Secretary. Please take the time to prayer-fully consider the persons, from the list below, best suited to serve CWM as Moderator and Treasurer at this time as you prepare to participate in the elections process. As you consider your choice, please be reminded that the Moderator and Treasurer must come from two separate regions.
We pray with you for God’s guidance in this important decision that you will make for the leadership within CWM.
